INTERACT is a pioneering program at Columbia University that focuses on developing global studies in the undergraduate curriculum through a network of postdoctoral scholars focused on cross-regional, trans-regional and interdisciplinary study. Since 2010, centers and institutes across Columbia have selected postdoctoral scholars to function as liaisons between their home offices and the INTERACT network of scholars.
INTERACT’s primary goal is to improve global literacy among undergraduates and equip them to be leaders in a globalizing world. These objectives are met through INTERACT fellows’ teaching of innovative courses, participation in campus programs and events, and collaborative organization of annual educator workshops.
Each annual workshop culminates in information modules on the workshop’s theme. These networks of information offer many applications, ranging from serving as the basis for in-class discussion, to functioning as expanded syllabi that explore new modes of critical thinking about East Asia and its relationship to the rest of the world. The Weatherhead East Asian Institute is proud to be a founding member of the INTERACT Network, and in line with its ExEAS and Asia for Everyone initiatives, is pleased to share the modules on this site to encourage and facilitate global thought through the lens of considering East Asia’s place in world history.
